Reading/Language Arts
This week third grade read the nonfiction selection "The Journey-The Stories of Migration" by Cynthia Rylant. In this story, students learn about the migratory journey of locusts and whales. The comprehension skill focused on the comparing and contrasting. The vocabulary strategy covered word roots. Students reviewed comparing adjectives and adverbs as the grammar skill. The phonics skill involved -ing and -ed ending in words.

The lesson 21 weekly assessment results have been included in the take home folder.
Science
The class has been learning about healthy habits. Students are learning about the integumentary system, which includes the skin, hair, and nails.

Math
The third grade students continue to work on solving division problems. Students have solved problems dividing by 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5,  6, 7, and 10.  Please continue to practice the basic facts at home.  One of the third grade standards is students are able to multiply and divide fluently.

Biography Book Report Project
The third grade students have been assigned a biography book report project to complete. All of the information you will need has been included in a packet in the take home folder. Each student picked out their biography book today. This project is due back to school by Wednesday, May 5th. Please let me know if you have any questions.

The Iowa Statewide Assessment of Student Progress
During the week of April 12th-16th, third through eighth grade students will be taking the ISASP tests. These standardized tests will be taken online. Students need to make sure their headphones are working. Please make sure your child gets a good night's sleep and eats a good breakfast each morning. Also, discuss with your child the importance of these tests. Encourage your child to do their best. The PTO will be supplying snacks for the students.

I have included a note card and an envelope in the take home folder. Please write a positive note of encouragement to your child and send it back to school in the envelope. Feel free to decorate the note card and envelope as you wish. I will give the note to your child before we begin test taking.
