Welcome back to school! I hope your child has enjoyed the last two days of third grade. I have included a class picture from the the second day of school. My intention was to take one on the first day, but forgot with how busy we were on Wednesday.
Here are a few reminders from the past couple of days. Some students are still missing necessary supplies. Please ask your child if he/she has everything he/she needs. Also, a few students still need to pay the $3 to cover the cost of the assignment book. Please send that money to school with your child. The assignment book needs reviewed and signed by a parent everyday. Take home folders will go home on Thursdays again this year. Please return the folder emptied on Fridays. Lunch for third through fifth grade is from 11:50 AM-12:15 PM. This is later than last year for the third graders. Please make sure your child eats a good breakfast because most are hungry by the time lunch rolls around.

MATH
This week was spent testing the students to assess levels of understanding. The first chapter in math will cover addition and subtraction. Skills to cover next week include include number patterns, rounding, and estimating.
SCIENCE
Third grade will be covering the topic of plants. Topics for discussion include the parts of a plant, needs of plants, and plant cells.
READING/LANGUAGE ARTS
Students took tests this week to help guide instruction. Next week the class will dive right into the Journeys reading series. On Monday the class will begin Lesson 1 in Unit 1. Spelling will begin on Monday as well. There will be a pretest on Mondays and a post test on Fridays. Throughout the week the class will be reading a story, working on vocabulary and comprehension skills, learning grammar rules, and develop writing skills.
