Last Day of School

This has been a special class of third graders. I have enjoyed teaching them and watching them develop their academic and social skills. I will always remember them as the "masked" class.

Have a great summer. Take some time to relax and enjoy time with your family. Also remember to have your child read, review the basic math facts, and practice cursive handwriting.

My plan is to get through my son's graduation party the beginning of June, then relax some. I plan watching my son golf in a few PGA tournaments, attend some baseball and softball games, and play golf. I will also be helping each of my children get ready for the next chapter's in their lives as they head off to college in August. My daughter will be going to the University of Iowa to continue her major in cinema and website design. My son will be going to the Grand View University to major in business and continue playing golf. Many changes in store for our family. I look forward to seeing your children in August as 4th graders.

Math
The third grade students have been working on telling time to the nearest minute and calculating elapsed time. Over the next few days, students will be measuring objects to the nearest inch and half inch. Students will calculate perimeter and area as well.

Science
Students continue to learn about matter. The class has been learning about physical and chemical changes.  Students will have a test over matter on Friday, May 21st.

Reading/Language Arts
The class read the story  "Becoming ANYTHING He Wants to Be." In this selection, students learn about Erik Weihenmayer. He is blind man doing remarkable achievements. He became the first blind man to climb to the top of Mt. Evererst. He eventually went on to climb all seven summits. Erik also ski dives, run marathons. skis, scuba dives, and does long distance bike rides. The skills worked on included fact/opinion and visualizing. Students also interviewed a classmate about one of their achievements.  Students then turned their notes into an article, typed it, and shared it with the class.

Please look for the results of the FAST testing in next week's take home folder. Take home folders will come home next Wednesday, May 26th and do not need returned to school.

Mass
Third grade and sixth grade will lead the mass on Wednesday, May 26th. Speaking parts have been included in the take home folder.

Spring Music Concert

The concert will be taped at school on Tuesday, May 25th from 9:00-11:00 AM. Students will watch each class and the band perform. Mass attire is required for the students. A production of the performance will be set out on social media.
