Math
Third grade continues to work on division during math. The students have covered the division facts dividing by factors zero through ten. Students are also working on solving two step word problems using all four operations and order of operations. Third graders will have a test over division next week.

Reading/Language Arts
This week the class read "The Journey of Oliver K. Goodman" by Darcy Pattison. In this fantasy story, student follow Oliver's journey from Uncle Ray's in South Carolina to his niece Tameka in California. The story is told through the letters written by each person Oliver encounters on his journey. The comprehension skill covered sequencing. The phonics skill focused on the suffixes of -ly, -ful, -y, -ous, and -er. The students worked on the suffixes of -er and -est as the vocabulary skill. The class also worked on possessive nouns as the grammar skill.

The results of the lesson 22 weekly assessment have been included in the take home folder.
Science
The third grade class continues to learn about the integumentary body system. Students have learned about skin and are now learning about hair and nails.

Reading Incentive Program
The reading incentive program has come to an end for this school year. As a whole, the class read for 29,706 minutes during the six months of the reading incentive program. Kylin read the most minutes throughout the program with 4,650 minutes total.  Breckyn read the second most with 4,018 total.  Five students met the reading goal in all six months. Those include Kylin, Breckyn, Brock, Indie, and Kinsley. Four students met the goal in five out of the six months. Those students are Sam, Hayden, Kalvin, and Karsi. Good job to all! Please continue to keep reading.

ISASP Testing
Students at STM in grades third though eighth will be taking the Iowa Statewide Assessment of Student Progress the week of April 12th. Testing will take place during the morning time. These tests will be taken on chrome books. Snacks will be provided by the PTO. A note was sent home last week about sending an encouraging note to your child. A note card and envelope were sent home in the take home folder. Please return these to school by tomorrow.

Please discuss with your child the importance of these statewide assessments.  Students should get a good night's sleep each night and eat a healthy breakfast each morning. We have been doing some practice tests this past week. These tests are very different than the Iowa Assessments previously taken.
