Math
The next chapter in math will focus on representing and interpreting data. Students have worked with tally tables and frequency tables. I have had several parents ask how they can help their child at home with math. A handout has been included in the take home folder that offers suggestions. Any additional help with rounding, addition with regrouping, and  subtraction with regrouping would be of great benefit as well.

Reading/Language Arts
This week students are reading an informational text entitled "What Do Illustrators Do?" in which students learn about the job of an illustrator. The comprehension skill covered students identifying text and graphic features. Students learned about synonyms as the vocabulary skill. The phonics skill covered three letter clusters (scr, str, spr, and thr). Students worked on verb tense (present, past, and future) as the grammar skill.

The results of the lesson 6 weekly assessment have been included in the take home folder.

Science
As students continue to learn about force, students have been studying about electricity.
Mass
Third, fourth, and fifth grades will be leading the mass on Wednesday, October 24th. Parts have been included in the take home folder. Please note not everyone will have a part due to the number of students involved. Parts were chosen randomly by drawing sticks from the cups. There will be a doughnut and coffee reception following this mass for parents, grandparents, and special guests attending the mass.

Parent/Teacher Conferences
Parent/teacher conference times have been set up for Tuesday, October 30th and Thursday, November 1st. Please sign up for a time using the following link Fall Conference Sign Up.  I look forward to discussing your child's progress with you at conferences. There is no school on Friday, November 2nd.

Halloween
Halloween will be celebrated at St. Malachy during the afternoon of Wednesday, October 31st. Students will participate in activities planned by the Civics Club. Costumes need brought to school, so students can change into them prior to the parade. The parade begins at 2:30 PM. Parents are more than welcome to come and watch the parade in the gym.
