Math

The third grade students will have a test over the process of division on Thursday, March 4th. The next chapter will focus on the basic division facts. Please continue to practice the facts at home.

Science

The third graders have been learning about constellations. Students modeled several constellations using marshmallows and pretzels then named and created their own constellation.

Students are going to begin researching a planet. Students will use information on the internet to gather facts.

Reading/Language Arts

This week the class is reading the informational text "Life on the Ice" by Susan Goodman. Students learn about life on the poles. The comprehension covered main ideas and supporting details. The phonics skill focused on compound words. Students reviewed how to use a dictionary as the vocabulary skill. In grammar students were introduced to adverbs.

The results for the lesson 19 weekly assessment have been included in the take home folder. Next week third grade will be taking the Lesson 4 Benchmark Assessment.

Reading Incentive Program

The results are in for the month of February. The class read for 5,o41 minutes total. Kylin, Sam, Hayden, Kalvin, Breckyn, Kinsley, Karsi, Indie, and Brock met the goal for the month. Congrats to Breckyn for reading the most minutes during February. There is one more month to keep track of minutes.

Auction Items

The second and third grade "Shop Local" basket was bought for $400 by Sarah Stephens. The recipe book and apron went for $80 and was bought by Delores Havens. Thanks again for everyone who donated.

FAST Testing

The results of the FAST testing have been included in the take home folder. I am happy to report that each third grade student's WPM improved from the fall screening! I will be discussing the results with parents at conferences next week.

Parent/Teacher Conferences

Parent/teacher conferences in third grade are scheduled for Tuesday, March 9th from 3:30-5:30 PM and Thursday, March 11th from 1:00-5:00 PM and 6:00-9:30 PM.

There is no school scheduled for Friday, March 12th.
