Students have been taught all of the math facts zero through ten. Please practice the basic facts at home. Third graders need to be fluent in the multiplication and division facts as well as addition and subtraction.

A review page has been included in the take home folder. The chapter 4 test will be on Monday, January 13th.

Science
3rd grade continues to learn about animal life cycles. Students have identified animals that go through a metamorphosis. Also, discussed have been animals that when born resemble their parents. Students are learning about inherited traits.

Reading/Language Arts
This week third grade is reading the humorous fiction selection "The Extra Good Sunday" by Beverly Cleary. Ramona and Beezus have to make supper for the family since they complained about the previous night's meal. The girls pull off the meal, but not without some issues and problems along the way. The comprehension skill was about understanding characters. Students identified trait, motivations, and feelings of Ramona and Beezus. The vocabulary skill involved students using a thesaurus. Students worked on vowels + /r/ words such as er, ir, ur, and or. Students also reviewed verb tenses.

Third grade will be taking the Unit 3 Benchmark test next week. We will begin the lesson 16 later in the week.

Next week, students will also do the winter screening of the FAST assessment. Please look for those results to come home at a later date.
