Math
Students are learning about fractions. The class has made equal shares, identified unit fractions and fractions of a whole, and ordered fractions fractions on a number line.

Please continue to practice the basic facts at home. Students who haven't passed the multiplication and division fluency tests will be taking them again next week.

Science
Third grade students are studying weather in science class. Students have been learning about how weather is measured.

Reading/Language Arts
Students read the informational text "Mountains-Surviving on Mt. Everest" this week. The story informed readers about Temba Tsheri, the youngest person to climb the mountain. It also gave facts about Mt. Everest. The comprehension skill covered using text and graphic features to better understand the text. The vocabulary strategy focused on analogies. Students reviewed adjectives and adverbs that compare in grammar. For the phonics skill, students worked with the suffixes -able, -less, and -ness.

On Thursday, April 25th and Friday, April 26th, students will be taking the Unit 5 Benchmark test.

NCEA Convention
From Monday, April 22nd through Wednesday, April 24th, St. Malachy teachers will be attending NCEA (National Catholic Education Association) National Convention and Expo in Chicago, IL as to further their professional development. There is no school at St. Malachy on these days.
