Reading/Language Arts
The results of the Lesson 29 weekly assessment have been included in the take home folder. Also included in the take home folder are the results of an end of the year spelling test. One word from each list was included on the test.

Students created brochures for the incoming third grade class in the fall that included "Things to Know" about third grade.

Please take time this summer to have your child read.  Research shows students who read over the summer tend to gain a month of reading proficiency. Talk with your child about what they are reading. The public library always a great summer reading program for students to participate in.
Math
During the first days of school, students took a Beginning of the Year third grade math test. This week, students took an End of the Year third grade math test. The purpose of the test is to show growth. A copy of the results have been included in the take home folder. Please look over the results. This is a great tool to use to help students practice math skills to use over the summer. Please continue to practice those basic facts.

Take Home Folders
Take home folders are for the students to keep. They do not need returned to school this week.

Last Day of School
The last day of school at St. Malachy is on Friday, May 31st.  This is a full day of school. There will be mass starting at 9:15 AM. Following mass there will be the awards for middle school athletes. There is a reception for Father Halbur and Kay Boden after that. A lunch of burger and hot dogs grilled by Thayne Glynn will be during regular lunch times. The Civics Club will host field day activities from 12:45 PM-2:30 PM. The 8th grade clap out will take place at 3:00 PM.
Thank You
Thank you for allowing me to teach to teach your child this past school year. It has been great to watch them grow, change, and progress as students. I hope everyone has a great summer break with their family. I will be busy attending my children's activities.  My son will keep me busy with golf tournaments and summer basketball league. My daughter will be a senior at Creston High School in the fall. We have senior pictures scheduled and hope to get some graduation planning done in between her busy work schedule and weights. I am also taking a class during the beginning of June about student strategies and another in August on writing. I am also attending two concerts at the Iowa State Fair in August. We hope to a little family vacation at some point as well. I hope to see all the students back in the fall as 4th graders.
