Math
Third graders continue to learn about multiplication. Students have built arrays to model multiplication number sentences. Students are also applying the Commutative Property (4x3=12, so 3x4=12) as a strategy to solve multiplication problems.

Reading/Language Arts
This week third grade is reading Tops and Bottoms. In this trickster tale, a clever Hare tricks a lazy bear. The hare plants the crops to "share" with the bear. The hare always ends up with the good parts, and the bear not so good parts. Bear learns a valuable lesson about working hard to reap the rewards you are wanting. The comprehension skill covered theme. The vocabulary strategy focused on idioms. The phonics skills covered homophones and words that end in -le and -er. Students used quotation marks in grammar.

The results of the Unit 2 Benchmark test and the lesson 11 weekly assessment have been included in the take home folder.

Science
The next unit third grade will cover is life cycles. Lessons will first focus on plant life cycles.

Reading Incentive Program
Eleven students met the reading goal for the month of November. Congratulations to Anthony, Charlie, Halle, Mark, Whisper, Savannah, Claire, Rohwyn, Will, Logan, and Zoey for meeting the goal of 400 minutes for the month. The total read for November was 6,180 minutes. Zoey read the most minutes in November with 1,010. December calendars have been sent home to keep track of minutes. The goal continues to be 400 minutes total.

Mass
The third grade class will lead the liturgy on Wednesday, December 12th. Parts have been included in the take home folder. Please practice speaking parts at home, so students can read their part fluently.

Secret Holiday Sock Exchange
Third grade will have a holiday sock exchange during our class party on Friday, December 21st. If you would like your child to participate, please bring in a new pair of wrapped Christmas themed child-sized socks suitable for a boy or girl. Socks should cost $5 or less. We will play a fun game to exchange the holiday themed socks during our class party. If you have any questions, please feel free to call or email me.

Food Pantry Donations
Donations are wanted for our local food pantry. Third, fourth, and fifth grade students are asked to bring toilet paper. Donations can be brought to school through December 14th.
