Reading/Language Arts
This week third grade is reading the realistic fiction story called "Kamishibai Man." In this story an elderly Japanese man remembers how he used to ride his bicycle to town where he would tell stories to the children and sell them candies his wife made. Gradually fewer and fewer children came to listen due to the invention of the television. Years later, the man returns to find things have completely changed. In the end the man is surrounded by familiar faces. The children he used to entertain have returned as adults and eager to have their children listen to his stories. The comprehension skill covered cause and effect. The vocabulary skill focused on using a dictionary. The phonics skill worked on -ow and -ou sounds. In grammar students learned about abstract nouns.
